This group of 6 different wines, usually a few reds and a few whites, that receive a 20% discount when you purchase 6 or more of those wines (mix or match).

June Monthly Specials: B.R. Cohn

· Top-quality Sonoma Winery established in 1984 with the Doobie Brothers’ Rock-n-Roll manager, Bruce Cohn.

· Helen Turley partnered with Bruce in the 1980s to bring the winery to the forefront of quality.

· Merry Edwards worked with Bruce in the 1990s to carry on the fantastic pedigree of the winery.

· Stunning 90-acre estate with over 60 planted acres situated over warm springs in the heart of Sonoma Valley.

· The warmth of the location creates a micro-climate particularly advantageous to Bordeaux varietals.

· Nearly 500 Piccholine olive trees planted in the 1860s still produce, which is the source of the winery’s logo.

B.R. Cohn Winery is one of few remaining family owned and operated estate wineries located in the Sonoma Valley. The B.R. Cohn history is rich and is one of the greatest wine stories to be told, a true piece of Americana.

It is protected on the west by Sonoma Mountain, which acts as a buffer to coastal fog, creating more sun exposure for the grapes. Less fog, more sunlight and no frost during the growing season, makes for days that are seven to ten degrees warmer than other parts of Sonoma Valley during the crucial growing months. These high daytime temperatures result in earlier bud break, an extended growing season and an earlier harvest than neighboring vineyards.

In addition to these unusually warm days, Olive Hill also enjoys the tempering effects of cool ocean breezes, which travel from the northwest and are funneled between the Sonoma and Mayacamas mountains in the late afternoon. These various attributes all combine to create a truly unique microclimate, with warmer-than-average days and cooler-than-average nights that result in grapes of greater intensity and character. This unique set-up provides the ideal conditions for maturing Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to the perfect ripeness.

Olive Hill Estate Vineyard has well drained gravelly loam soils that create exceptional growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, with ripening patterns controlled by drip irrigation. Varying soil depths and exposures also help to create a variety of flavors from which winemaker, Tom Montgomery, crafts the B.R. Cohn wines.

Olive Hill Estate’s 61 acres of vineyards are planted mostly with Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts dedicated to Petite Sirah, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.

Wine Tastings

The best way to purchase fine wines is to taste them first. For that reason, we taste every wine before we put it on the shelf. We strongly suggest that our customers come to our monthly wine tastings so they can taste before they buy. Most of our store wine tastings are actually mini wine tasting classes at no charge. These tastings, led by Michael, are primarily centered on a coherent theme that can range from regions to holidays. At our wine tastings, we discuss the similarity and differences between the wines. Sometimes we taste the same varietal from different regions or different types of wines, all from the same area. Three times a year, we have “Grand Wine Tastings”. At these events, we have about 35 different wines available to be tasted at a half dozen different stations. Each station is manned by industry professionals who are well acquainted with the wines on their table.
